Anethole is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Anethole is a sweet, anise, and balsam tasting compound. Anethole is found, on average, in the highest concentration in a few different foods, such as anises, star anises, and fennels and in a lower concentration in corianders, sweet marjorams, and wild celeries.
