While Anionic Polyacrylamide (APAM) is generally considered safe when used as directed, proper handling and application procedures are essential to ensure both worker safety and product efficacy. Adhering to these guidelines guarantees optimal performance and minimizes potential risks.

Preparation and Dissolution: APAM is typically supplied as a white granular powder. To prepare a working solution, it is crucial to dissolve the powder uniformly into clean water, preferably neutral or de-salted. A common recommendation is to use a 0.1% concentration solution. The powder should be slowly sprinkled into stirred water, maintaining a stirring speed of around 100-300 rpm to prevent clumping and ensure complete dissolution. While room temperature water is often sufficient, moderate heating (below 60°C) can accelerate the process. Avoid using wastewater for dilution, as impurities can interfere with dissolution and product performance.

Application Process: Once the APAM solution is prepared and allowed to age for optimal effectiveness (often 30-60 minutes), it should be rapidly mixed with the liquid to be treated. After flocculation begins and visible flocs form, the stirring speed can be reduced to promote floc growth and enhance settling.

Storage: APAM powder should be stored in a dry, airy place to maintain its quality and prevent degradation. Proper packaging, typically in Kraft paper or polypropylene woven bags with plastic liners, protects the product from moisture and contamination. The expiration date should be noted, and products should be used within their recommended shelf life.

Safety Precautions: When handling powdered APAM, it is important to minimize dust generation. Workers should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection (like a dust mask), safety goggles, and gloves, to avoid inhalation and skin or eye contact. While APAM itself has low toxicity, trace amounts of unreacted acrylamide monomer can be present, which is a known neurotoxin and carcinogen. Manufacturers often add substances like sodium bicarbonate to scavenge residual monomers. However, good industrial hygiene practices are always recommended.

NINGBO INNO PHARMCHEM CO.,LTD. prioritizes product safety and provides detailed technical data sheets and safety data sheets (SDS) for all our APAM products. We are committed to guiding our clients on the correct and safe usage of our chemicals.
