In these micelles, the hydrophobic tails cluster inwards, shielded from water, while the hydrophilic heads form the outer surface, interacting with the surrounding aqueous environment. This ability to form micelles is fundamental to its detergent action.


The micelles formed by SDS can encapsulate hydrophobic substances, such as oils and grease, effectively solubilizing them in water. This is how SDS achieves its powerful cleaning action.
