Our studies highlight how the TIPS-pentacene PS blend OFET performance is significantly influenced by the precise control of the film's morphology during deposition.
The critical aspect of this control lies in understanding the effect of spin coating time on TIPS-pentacene morphology. Through careful adjustments to spin speed and time, we can dictate the crystallization behavior of the TIPS-pentacene. This manipulation shifts the balance from one-dimensional (1D) crystal structures to more advantageous two-dimensional (2D) crystal arrangements. The 2D morphology, with its continuous nature and void-rich structure, directly contributes to improved charge carrier mobility in OFETs and enhanced sensitivity in gas sensors. Therefore, achieving 2D crystal growth of TIPS-pentacene is a primary goal in our material development.
The synergy between TIPS-pentacene and polymers extends beyond just processability. The blend composition and the phase separation dynamics, which are influenced by spin-coating parameters, create unique film architectures. These architectures are vital for the efficiency of electronic devices. For instance, in gas sensing applications, the porous nature imparted by the 2D crystalline structure of TIPS-pentacene allows for greater interaction with analyte molecules, leading to more sensitive detection. The insights gained into TIPS-pentacene PS blend gas sensing properties are paving the way for more robust and responsive sensors.
